Thanks to the Minitel, France has already had access to high-quality online services for over a decade. It is mainly this same French invention that gave them a slow start on the Internet. France Telecom, the government-controlled company which has the monopoly of the country's telecommunication network, distributed the Minitel terminals into more than 7 million households. The Minitel offers an array of practical and useful services not available yet on the Internet. So, why would they switch??? Moreover, there are some who say that the Internet is yet another American imperialism tactic to annihilate the French culture, a favorite political theme these days.

French people, however, love technology and are avid comsumers. You can expect a lot from France on the Internet in the future, and we'll be here to cover it.
