*Anyone eat at Jules Verne?

Posted on November 16, 2005

I’m debating on making reservations at Jules Verne vs Altitude 95 at the Eiffle Tower. Any thoughts? I’ve heard that JV is crazy expensive. What does that mean? What’s the price range.

I guess, this is our first anniversary and our first time in France, so I want to enjoy a special dinner and am willing to splurge.

Thanks!

Hi. I’ve never eaten at either. We don’t spend that kind of money even in Paris. However, I’ve heard from quite a few people that it isn’t worth it. If you must go up in the tower, go up for the view. There are lots better restaurants in Paris and probably for less money.

I hope you enjoy your trip. Paris is a wonderful magical city and a great place for your first anniversary. You might want to do a little research on a really nice restaurant. The most expensive aren’t necessarily the best and "splurge" in Paris can break Bill Gate’s budget (well, may not his!).

Check http://www.fodors.com and/or http://www.virtualtourist.com and ask about good restaurants in Paris. Both web sites also have search engines that are excellent also.

    Have a great trip!

Just out of idle curiosity I checked one other forum on the Jules Verne.

The general consensus was that the food was good, not great but very good. These are tourists posting, not gourmets, but I assume you are also a tourist and not a gourmet.

The prices people gave varied wildly. One guy said it cost from $500 to $700 per couple. Several people said it was $400 to $500 per couple. Several people suggested lunch was about half that except on Sunday when they serve the dinner menu all day. I hope your anniversary isn’t on Sunday! I think I’d Google Jules Verne and check their own web site for prices.

Everyone said you can’t get in without a reservation and during high season you need to reserve about five months in advance. 3 (0)1 45 55 61 44 is the phone number given but you might want to check it.

You do not have to stand in line to go up. There is a private elevator. You give your name to the security people and you are admitted and taken up to the restaurant.

I hope this helps. It certainly assured me that I’ll never eat there. I can spend a week in Paris for $500 so why blow it on dinner?! On the other hand, one guy took his wife and three small children (one not het walking) to dinner at Jules Verne and said it was a great way to skip the lines to go up the tower. Obviously, he is in a different income bracket from our family!

    Have fun.
