We are arriving in Le Havre on 29 March 09 and will be needing transportation to Caen. We hear transportion on Sunday is difficult. Is there a train or bus to take and what is the name of the station we would be arriving.
On 31 March we want to leave Caen to Brussels, preferbly by train. Is there a fast train name, cost , and time frame between destinations? Thanks . Denise
You can rent a car.
There are lots of Sunday buses. Use this web site: http://www.busverts.fr/_hiver/horaires.asp?communes=LE%20HAVRE
Bus is probably the cheapest way to go and the buses are fine in Europe.
If you prefer the train, here's the web site: http://www.voyages-sncf.com
This is the official train web site that is in French. If you don't read French, I suspect you can figure it out anyway. All ticket sites tend to be similar. There is an English site but it seems to be down today. You can click on the small British flag and see if it works but it might be easier to just use the above web site.
Trains leave Le Havre at 11:03, 14:03 and 16:03. The trip to Caen takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours depending on which train you take. The reason it takes so long is the train connects in Rouen which is out of the way. On the bright side, you get to see more of the French countryside. 8^)
I think the price was around 61 euros. You can pick up your ticket at the station but be sure you use the same credit card you used for purchase. It's just as easy to purchase the tickets when you arrive and you don't have to worry about which card you used.
Good luck.
