We spent four nights here in June and had dinner twice--one excellent meal, one good. Breakfast was simple but beautifully presented. However, beware of the rooms in the converted stables near the pool. Ours was very plain and motel-like and WHY was there no place to read (or decent light to do it by)?! The hotel public rooms were quite modern but well done and comfortable.

The Chateau is beautiful and relaxing. It's set up like a private residence so you don't feel like you're in a hotel. No imposing front desk, no staff running around. Closer to Bayeux than I thought so near a main road but still nice. Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was too expensive (13 euros) for a bread basket, juice, yoghurt, and coffee. However, I would stay here again. The staff is very accommodating

This hotel was beautiful. The rooms were large and spotless and the grounds
were lovely. We were sorry that we only spent one night as this was the
loveliest hotel we stayed in on our trip to France. For the price, it can't
be beat!! We highly recomend this hotel for any travellers visiting
Normandie.

Chateau de Sully was outstanding in every respect. The staff were
exceedingly kind and helpful and the facilities were beautiful beyond
expectation. The location is perfect for visiting the invasion beaches and
Bayeux, or just for a quiet retreat. Staying at the Chateau made this a

Chateau de Sully - I found our stay at the chateau most satisfactory.

Our stay at Chateau de Sully was AMAZING! It was the best part of our trip; I wish we would have stayed there the entire time. Lovely room, lovely hotel, lovely restaurant, and lovely area of Normandie. Bayeau was a wonderful town; I wish we had more time to explore. And dinner in the hotel on our anniversary and breakfast in bed the following morning were true luxuries.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting the Normandie area!

This may be the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. The chateau is in a beautiful setting and is decorated magnificently. Dinner in the restaurant was an elegant meal, as was breakfast. The restaurant staff were professional and courteous, although the hotel staff were less than helpful and not very friendly. Nonetheless, we would gladly return.

Your staff was very helpful in finding us the hotel rooms we needed. We have a family of seven, and finding European hotels with larger rooms is always a challenge. Your staff saved us a great deal of time by being well informed and finding what we needed at good prices.

After the stunning drive through the courtyard, our first impression on entering was being greeted by an elegant young person at a writing desk, who was expecting us and recommended quickly making a dinner reservation for the popular restaurant. I had been apprehensive about dining there after reading your reviews saying it was stuffy or overpriced. I found it gracious and fairly priced at 39 euros for an exceptional dinner of several courses. Our room, a standard with a king-size bed, was small but very attractive, comfortable, and silent. The bathroom was large and well-equipped. We were charmed and very satisfied.

This was the second time I had stayed at Chateau de Sully. In addition to an excellent location, we enjoyed a large room with excellent bath. We took breakfast and diner at the chateau and both were very good. The cost was somewhat less than other equally nice places. When we are in Bayeax we plan to stay there again.

My wife, son and I stayed for 5 days while we toured the D-Day sites and had a delightful time. Our rooms were most attractive and the grounds were beautiful. There was a fine fitness center and pool and nice bar/lounge. We particularly enjoyed the breakfasts. The owner did double duty as concierge and he was extremely accomodating.. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Lovely, quiet hotel. Beautiful pool, and grounds. Very smart and pricey restaurant which we didn't use as Port en Bessin (a fishing village) was 5 minutes down the road with FANTASTIC restaurants. A lovely, relaxing, place. Highly recommended.

The owners were very friendly and accomodating. We had a junior suite in the main building which was superb , room size was large, bed comfortable, decor very nice. Dinner was fancy and delicious. My only complaint, as in all of France, is that they really don't have bathroom safety perfected - no hand rails or skid proof mats in the tub, and a swinging glass partial tub enclosure which could have been quite dangerous. Overall a beautiful place close to Bayeux and the D-Day landing beaches. Bayeux was a very nice town, which we sort of discovered as we were leaving -should have spent a few more days there.

Our stay at the Chateau is one of the highlights of our trip, topped only by Claude Monet's garden. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We felt welcome and cared for. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable. Large and spacious. We enjoyed one evening meal and two breakfast during our stay. The preparation and quality of the meals was superior. On the final morning we had the pleasure of a seeing a beautiful rainbow. It's convenient to the beaches and battlefields, but take a picnic lunch with you! We would like to return again. Thank you for the special memories.

This is a first class establishment in every way. The grounds were beautiful and the location in the countryside away from town was very quiet. Dinner was a wonderful experience. The young staff was knowledgeable and very attentive and pleasant. This was a highpoint of my trip.

Ch Sully lacked charisma and character - the location and the people serving there appeared to my wife and I as disengaged. It was as if a lot of money had been spent by someone and then the banks had taken over and put in "professional" management.....

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Chateau de Sully. Our room was lovely, the food was delicious, and the location was perfect for touring Western Normandy. We stayed two nights and ate in the restaurant both nights. While we greatly enjoyed the excellent food. (Note: from what I have read, the restaurant appears to have a new chef, but retains its Michelin star.), the prix fixe menus are someone what limited: 2 choices per category for one on them, no choices for the others. Since the choices include foie gras, however, this in not meant as a complaint, but rather as an informational comment. The carte includes more extensive choices.

We were pleased with our accomodations and the staff. The location was excellent with respect to the Normandy beaches, museums, etc. It would help to have driving instructions to take D6 (if that is the correct number) out of Bayeux and look for the hotel on the right. We had heard (erroneously) that it was somewhat off the main road. It was certainly visible if you were looking for it.

We loved our stay at Chateau de Sully -- the chateau was our favorite during our visit to France. It had a beautiful setting, not too far from a very quaint town (we were so glad we didn't make the mistake of staying in Caen -- way too big and commercial), and the room was beautiful as well. If we are lucky enough to return to the Normandie area, we will stay there again. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and service.

The location was excellent for our purposes (WWII Memorial and Museum). We had a little difficulty finding the hotel, but once we did, we found everything we needed in close proximity. The chateaux and the room itself were charming. The room was quite large by European standards, and the bathroom was huge by the same standards. If we should ever travel to France again, we will make Bayeau part of our trip. For first time visitors, the boardwalk/waterfront area is definitely worth looking at. Little shops and quaint restaurants are aplenty.

We stayed in the separate guest house which was very private and roomy. The location in the country just outside of Bayeux was delightful and relaxing. We would go again! The location allowed quick trips into Bayeux for strolls through the main street, or a drive to the Normandy beaches.

This was rated a 3 star hotel but should be a 4 star. The rooms are immaculate and the grounds are beautiful. This was a completely updated and luxurious chateau. It is 5 minutes from the center of Bayeux and 5 km. from Omaha Beach. This was a much better choice than staying in town.

The Chateau de Sully was everything we expected and more. It is a lovely rural setting, close to Bayeux and convenient to the many sites of Normandy. An excellant base point to explore the Normandy area. The food in the restaurant was wonderful. The room was very nicely decorated, roomy; wonderful view of front and back gardens. The staff very friendly and helpful. All in all, a high recommendation for anyone traveling to the area.

This was a beautiful Chateau with charming atmosphere. The gardens were lovely and the room was small, but decorated very nicely. The staff at the reception desk spoke English and were very nice by helping us with directions into town, dinner reservations, etc. The only suggestion I would make is to not bother eating at the hotel restaurant. The meal was very good, but the restaurant staff, for such an obviously exclusive place, left a lot to be desired. The gentleman who seated us and help us with the menu was very nice, the Wine Stuart very courteous, but the rest of the staff seemed to get a real kick out of the fact that we couldn't speak French. It was very obvious that they thought we were not good enough to be there. The restaurant didnt have a dress code and, due to traveling for two weeks, my husband did not have a jacket and tie. They blatantly laughed at us while they were all in a group each trying to be sly by trying not to let us see them glancing our way. The snobbish staff made what should have been a wonderful meal very uncomfortable and unpleasant. It was not worth the cost of the meal. We did not dine there on the second evening and did not have any other problems with the hotel.

We had a fabulous stay at the Chateau de Sully! Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. It was very easy to find, convenient to town (Bayeux) and to the Normandy beaches. We recommended Chateau de Sully to everyone we came across that was vising that area later in their trip. Next time we come to France we will book a longer stay at Chateau de Sully.

A beautiful, beautiful hotel. I could barely speak when we arrived - in a matter of seconds my wife and I went from being fairly lost and miserable to driving through the gates and into a dream (or a French "Pride and Prejudice," as my wife put it). The chateau is 5 minutes from Bayeux and 20 minutes from the D-Day beaches. We were glad we didn't stay in Bayeux, though it's worth a trip into town to see the cathedral and tapestry. Anyone intending to visit the area should definitely at least consider staying here. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant and the staff spoke English perfectly. Bear in mind that we lucked into what certainly was the best room in the chateau - first floor (in French termininology) middle. The main window and balcony looked right down the drive. The only negative was that there was a fuel oil smell in the room. Still, we didn't say anything for fear they would try to move us to a different room. The only place my wife and I have stayed that compares to the chateau is the Imperial Hotel Tramontano in Sorrento, Italy.

The Chateau de Sully was an excellent value. Our room was in the chateau and was large and comfortable. It was not the most expensive category but was more luxurious than other chateaus with higher ratings. The restaurant had excellent food and an excellent wine selection. Seveal tables overlooked the garden area which was beautiful. The staff was very accomadating and the bar and billard room were enjoyable areas to relax and enjoy the company of the other guests. I would rate this hotel as better than most at a more reasonable price for the service and accomadations. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone traveling to this area. It was also very convenient for visiting the sites of the area.

We were very pleased during our stay at the Ch. de Sully. The staff was great and readily spoke English when our poor French wasn't up to it. The bedrooms were large and the bathrooms were excellent. Our stay at the Chateau de Sully could not have been more pleasant, from the moment we were met by a very helpful and courteous woman at the desk who even helped my wife and me take our bags up to our room. The room itself was beautifully appointed and the bed exceedingly comfortable. Out our window we had a gorgeous view of the long gravel drive dividing two lawns of the greenest grass we've ever seen and near the chateau dividing around an oval of manicured lawn. Also beautiful were the back garden, the bar, and the glassed back porch, where we took our appreitifs. The dining room was first-class. The food, the wine, the service were all perfect, and at a very reasonable price. In fact, we have paid far more for room and meals and not been half so satisfied. When we come to Normandy again, this excellently-located chateau will be our lodging of choice.

Chateau de Sully was great! Better than we thought considering it is a 3 star, it was just as nice as some of the 4 stars we stayed at around France. Dinner in the restaurant was good, but also recommend eating in the charming town of Bayeaux.

The chateau was in an easy to find location just outside Bayeux clearly marked from the road. Our junior suite gave us an outstanding and high degree of comfort - almost too much in that we nearly overslept. I would recomend this chateau unreservedley and have alrrady done so to friends looking for a similar break in France.

Beautiful Chateau just outside the city of Bayeux, walled and just off the secondary road. The Husband and Wife team who run the place were absolutely fantastic. If there were a higher grade than excellent, the Chateau de Sully would receive it. This place is fantastic! It may not be a 4-star, but the only reason must be that there is not room service or a mini bar. It doesn't matter though. It's like staying in your home. You just walk a few steps to get anything you want--water, drinks, ice, etc. This is an absolutely beautiful place!!!! The decor is lovely, the rooms are beautifully decorated (fabric wall coverings), the bathrooms are exceptional--a shower too which we loved, and the food was fabulous--we ate at the "other" 4-star down the road the second night, and liked the Chateau de Sully the best. The staff is very well trained and most helpful and English is no problem. In all, one of the finest places we have ever stayed--we only wish it were closer so we could visit more often. It is easy to find, close to all the D-Day beaches and a welcome retreat from the hustle-bustle of Bayeux.

Our stay was most enjoyable. The only negative experiences were not attributal\ble to the Chateau de Sully. We were not prepared for the remoteness from Bayeaux, necessitating a taxi from the train station, back to the city, and back to the Chateau. Our experience was that the Tourism Center in Bayeaux was the most convenient point to secure a taxi. At 50 FF each trip, coupled with the delay involved, this was the only derogatory experience we encountered. The room was outstanding, the dining experience equaled or exceeded any Michelin 4 star restaurant we have encountered. Reservations were prompt and accurate. The staff accommodated our lack of proficiency in French with none of the abruptness or condecension we encountered in Paris. We are already starting to plan a repeat visit in two years.
