This Chateau was very nice, we stayed here for 3 days of our honeymoon. The staff was very nice and helpful, we enjoyed the breakfast. It was easy to get around with our rented car. We would stay here again and recommend it to our friends

Although we initially struggled to find the Chateau, we were very pleased that we persevered. The setting was beautiful. We had opted for one of the rooms in the separate Pavillion building. This was a fabulous private spot with al fresco eating and very tranquil. The room was slightly disappointing as it was rather damp and musty and the bathroom facilities were basic but the location and warm welcome made up for this.

Excellent location to visit chateaux, great arrangement for parents travelling with children, very restful place to stay. Breakfasts could include a selection of meats in addition to the cheeses, would be worth paying a slightly higher price. All in all, a super place to stay.

Chateau des Tertres far exceeded our expectations. The chateau sat up on a hill overlooking a rural yet managed setting. Our rooms, although small, were well appointed and warmly charming. Breadfast was delicious and served by a delightful young woman who did an exceptional job of serving us. We all wanted to take her home. The owners, the Valois family, were genuine, warm, and helpful. We would stay there again and recommnend it to anyone who wants to stay in the Loire Valley.

This is THE PLACE! I had read the previous reviews which were very positive so I had big expectations. Still, they were all beaten when we got to the place. The location, ambiance, decor and the OUTSTANDING treatment of the people makes this an excellent choice.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Cateau des Tertres and had a wonderful stay. We were worried it would be hard to find, but there were plenty of signs pointing out the direction. The chateau is meticulously decorated and situated on a beautiful parklike estate. Very peaceful and relaxed. Only downside was no restaurant on premises, but this was adequately made up for by the chateau's excellent recommendations for good eats nearby (and they would arrange all reservations). We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, and for 70 euros a night thought it quite a bargain.

You can stop looking. My wife and I spent three days in this delightful small Chateau which has the ambience of country estate in the beautiful Loire Valley. The host was a very pleasant 30ish man who had spent time in California. We stayed in a room on the third floor with a view toward the front of the house. I would suggest that you request the same because the view out the tall windows across the valley is (in May) beautifully lush. The room itself is very adequate and roomy. The breakfast was a delight. Big pitchers of coffee, fresh breads, yogurts, etc. One of our favorite days was taking a bike ride in circular route. They have maps that are easy to follow and the terrain, while beautiful, is not overly taxing. But you do roll through picturesque towns and across beautiful stretches of farmland. All this for about $70 per night. It was our favorite lodging in our 23 honeymoon in France, Switzerland and Italy! Enjoy!

We absolutely loved the Chateau des Tertres and wished we had stayed longer than 2 nights. Jonathan and the staff were very friendly and kind and the breakfast was very good. Jonathan was kind enough to serve us breakfast even though we arrived a half hour after meal time. The gardens, rooms and views were beautiful and the large shower was a nice welcome after a long hot muggy day. The town of Onzain was very nice and we serendipitiously stumbled onto the annual Marche Nuit- wonderful music and the best sausages and pomme frites we ever had. We definitely want to come back to the Chateau and explore more of the Loire Valley.

For discovering Loire Valley, Chateau des Tertres is at excellent location! The Chateau is clean, on beautiful grounds and staff are very friendly and helpful with excellent English. The Chateau is easy to find if you follow the blue sign and slow down when you see a sign 500m to Chateau des Tertres. The price for the room is excellent! I recommend this chateau to anyone and I would go back again if we are in Loire Valley for our vacation again.

The Chateau was excellent! If you are planning to discover Loire Valley on your own, we recommend this Chateau. The staff is friendly, and they will help you in excellent English. The cost for the rooms are great too. The grounds are beautiful, and let you experience what its like to live in a country side. The Chateau is easy to find if you just follow the blue sign through the town of Onzain. Soon as you see 500M to Chateau des Tertres, slow down and its on your right side. You can visit Chambord, Cheverny, Blois,Chaumont, Chenonceau, and Amboise all in couple of days. Not to mention many wine tasting spots if you are interested. The food is excellent too. We would love to go back again and stay longer at Chateau des Tertres.

The hotel was very quiet and peaceful and well-located for enjoying the Loire Valley. The staff were friendly. The breakfast room and terrace are lovely and inviting. We were very comfortable in the lounge and although there is no restaurant, coffee, wine and light refreshments are served on request in the lounge. We enjoyed our stay a lot. Note this is a vacation hotel - NOT a hotel for business travelers who need desks or frequent Internet access.

This is a charming little place in the heart of the Loire Valley with good access to most of the famous chateaux. I reserved the room in the pavillon as recommended by the reviews in this page. The room was spacious and the decor was modern. There were new trendy fixtures in part of the bathroom, but it was not completely renewed. (I didn't have a proper stand-up shower fixture). While the rest of the room was very clean, the floor could have been better mopped. On the other hand, I also found it very nice to have a stereo system in the room (I brought my own CDs). Overall, the room felt like a good friend's cottage in the country rather than a hotel, which actually adds to the charm of it. ( I never expected it to be a luxury thing). The service was very good indeed. Since they didn't have a fridge in the room, they were nice enough to chill our bottle of wine for us, placed it in the ice and delivered it to our room, awaiting for our return late at night. The host, who spoke great English, was genuinely kind. One last thing to add, is that, do reserve the pink and blue tradition room in the Chateau, since they were really charming and had a great view facing the front of the property, if one wants a true French country experience. All in all, while this would not be a place for someone expecting luxury, it is really a humble little gem where one could truly experience the country charm.

Great chateau! The location, petit dejeuner, staff, decor, room, grounds, price were all excellent! This family-owned property is a 'find'! The staff spoke English, as well as other languages. Seemed to be a lot of German visitors as well. The gentleman who is the son of the owner was still awake, friendly and helpful by the time my 9 year-old daughter and I arrived at nearly 11PM. (We did a bit of sight-seeing in the FABULOUS Loire Valley on our drive to Onzain.) Would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great location in the Loire Valley. Close to many sights and not difficult to locate at all.

Of all the hotels we stayed in on our recent trip to France, Chateau des Tertres was by far the best. Big and beautifully furnished room, huge bathroom, quiet and pleasant surroundings, excellent breakfast (although its price is not included in the stay), overall perfect place to relax and explore the region. Blois, Amboise, Chenonceau are within 20-25 min drive; some other attractions (Villandry, Usse, Azay-le-Rideau) will take you close to an hour, but one can hardly complain. Hotel has a number of menus of nearby restaurants (try Auberge de Launay, it does not look much but the food was excellent). Mme. Estelle and other staff speak English, and she was great in helping us with our inquiries (our French, unfortunately, is pretty bad). We'd definitely come back whenever we are in the region again.

Beautiful chateau, nice room, good location, dilicious breakfast, excellent service...All the good comments talking about this Chateau des Tertres were true, based on what we have experienced. Plan to arrive the hotel at least 2 hours before sunset, espeically if you don't have a good local map at hand. After exit 17 on Rt A10 (City BLOIS), look for direction Tours every time you hit a traffic circle, it will lead you to road N152. Once you are on Rd N152, drive a narrow road beside the river for 16 km, look for Onzain. Once you are in Onzain, Tertres is only 1.5 km away. If you arrive after dark, you may have some difficulties. This hotel is very close to Chateau de Cheveney (most beautiful inside), Chambord (Biggest, most beaufiful chateau outside), Chumount (5 km away, another nice chateau) and BLOIS (16 km). On another direction, you can visit Ambois (you can taste local wine there), Langeais (Roman style architecture), Azay de Rideaus (very nice one for taking pictures). Cheneceau is also close to this hotel. The gentleman who owns the hotel also told me a very important tip when driving in France countriside: Never look for North, South, etc... in France, and don't try to spend energy looking for Road numbers -- It won't work! If you do, you will get lost very easily. Look for a BIG city's name FURTHER to your final destination every time you hit a traffic circle. For example, if you want to go Onzain from BLOIS, Look for big city "Tours" and on the way to Tours, you will see the sign "Onzain". This is "French way" driving, and I've found it worked well for me. If I have a chance to go back to France, this will be the hotel I will plan to stay for at least another two days. I highly recommend this hotel, for it's convenience, cleaness, and friendlyness.

This hotel was our favorite out of all that we stayed in while in France. It was off the beaten path being located in Onzain, but it was still very convenient to many of the Chateaus in the area. The Chateau de Tertes was a beautiful, mid-19th C structure located on beautiful grounds. Our room overlooked the front grounds. The hotel was very quiet and the manager was very helpful. A really friendly staff ( the son of the owners )who was waiting for us when we arrived late. The Chateau is beautifully kept including the grounds. It was the only Chateau we used that had an elevator, which helped us get our heavy luggage to the 3rd floor. Excellent English spoken, and the sitting lounge, and breakfast rooms were delightful, and the breakfast very good. Only drawback was that they do not serve dinner. This is definitely a place we will go back to.

This is only for persons who want a really quiet place away from all the hustle and bustle. One must drive to nearby restaurants for dinner, but they are not too far. Staff was friendly and helpful. During our one week stay we had opportunity to visit more than 10 chateaux, many cities and events thanks for the good location of the chateau. Reservation Center booking went smoothly and efficiently.Thank you. The chateau is an old but clean and well-maintained house which is part of the Relais du Silence group.i.e not a place for kids. (No TV, no radio and no noise.) Estelle and Monsieur Valois were friendly and helpful - and spoke excellent English! Nearby restaurants all have good food, but if you want to spend an expensive and unpleasant evening with some extremely rude restaurant staff, go to La Caillere. Otherwise go to any of the others that Tertres recommends.

The Chateau des Tetres is certainly located in a secluded area and finding it was rather challenging. We arrived quite late and since we were only there one evening, we didn't really get to enjoy the hospitality of the hotel staff and the charming grounds. The room was very spacious, the largest during our 14 night stay in France and was very clean and accomodating. It is a retreat for those seeking some rest and relaxation, before a hectic day of visiting all the Chateaux in the area. This hotel could certainly provide a romantic retreat for those who need some quiet time together. Overall, our stay at the Chateau des Tertres was a pleasant one.

very cordial and courteous family run chateau. everyone was very nice and the location is on a nice quiet estate. very near other chateau that we wanted to visit. not many restraunts right near the hotel, but the reality is that you eat while you are out and are not really hungry when you get back to sleep. if there was a little refridgerator in the room that would have been the only thing that we could have added. even had a cd player and no tv, which actually worked out fine. didn't miss it a single bit.

A lovely facility, easy to find (just follow the signs in Onzain), perfectly located and VERY quiet. Ask for one of the front rooms. Lack of a full restaurant facility requires that you go elsewhere to eat dinner, but that's not a real burden, except on Monday nights when most places are closed in Onzain, requiring a 10-15 minute drive to Blois. A sit on the front lawn with a bottle of wine is perfect after a day of "chateaux trolling".

Absolutely lovely! We had just come from the hectic pace of Paris, and with only a two hour drive we were surrounded by tranquility. Our stay at the Chateau des Tertres was absolutley wonderful. The location was ideal, the staff helpful and friendly, and the rooms (we were with another couple) superb. The breakfast was delicious, ample, and allowed a choice of cereals, yogurt, croissants, bread, etc. I cannot imagine how our stay could have been any better if we had booked in a four star hotel!. My only regret is that we stayed only two nights and spent all day visiting the Loire sights instead of spending more time during the day at the Chateau des Tertre and enjoying the gorgeous setting and spectaular views. We spent two days at the Chateau des Tertres. We chose this facility because of its proximity to most of the major chateaus and castles in the upper Loire Valley and the largely positive comments we read online at the French Hotel Reservation Center ( I wish other countries had such a valuable resource as this site). Had a bit of trouble finding this hotel as no one we asked had heard of Onzain. The grounds were beautiful backing up to the woods. There was no restaurant but the woman at the desk gave us directions to get to the restaurant in town (most they recommended were in Blois) and it turned out to be excellent, and they were very nice. Our server didn't speak English but she tried very hard in French to make us understand what everything was.

This is a lovely building in a lovely location. Blois is nearby and so are several Chateaus and cave de vins. The Breakfast was the best we had in France. Service was outstanding. The clerks happily made recommendations of nearby restaurants and also made reservations for us. The room was quite large. The only drawback was the bed. It was horrible and both of us had aching backs after only one night. We would return to this lovely chateau but would want a different room unless the bed was improved. It really was terrible--saggy and painful. A good night sleep is crucial when your touring and we had a difficult time sleeping both nights. Onzain is lovely but small and you'll need to head to Blois or one of the larger nearby towns (within 15 minutes) to find something to eat although there is a pizza place and a decent restaurant in Onzain.

The staff at Tertres was excellent! They all spoke English and were very professional and accomodating. Although they don't serve dinner,(continental breakfast was great!) we were able to purchase a bottle of wine after our arrival which they served us on the terrace. Had several local restuarant menus available and didn't try to push one over another. (One chateau we stayed in only recommened one place to everybody and wanted to make your reservation. Pretty clear they were getting a kick-back). Our room was small but had a sparkling new bathroom and a great view. They've added an elevator at the back. A big old tree outfront was in the process of being cut down and when completed will help the landscaping. We had a great stay. I can't think of anything lacking about Chateau des Tertres. It's located a few miles from, perhaps, the most popular Chateaus. The rooms were good sized and furnished with antiques. The bathrooms were quite large, clean and very well maintained (looked new!). We had two rooms (traveled w/kids) and stayed two days. The staff was very helpful (and spoke English well) making our stay enjoyable. I took a chance with the on-line reservations and limited information about the Chateau. I was very pleased with both. We only had a short time to stay in this area and we enjoyed every minute. A nice find in the area.

This was our second stay at the Chateau des Tertres. It is a lovely place to stay at an extremely reaonable price.

The property was easy to find as the road was marked with numerous signs. The building is in a beautiful location and is very well maintained. The staff was very helpful. Be aware that evening meals are not served at all. You must travel to local cafes to eat. Sample menus are on hand to aid in making a choice.

A good hotel, quiet, beautiful setting and well positioned for exploring the chateau of the Loire. The service was friendly. The only negative point was the lack of a restaurant and the consequence need to drive to nearby tons to eat.

This hotel has beautiful grounds with a picturesque view from the terrace. Rooms are well fitted out but without a TV. The hotel offers breakfast but has no restaurant for main meals. A 15 minute drive is required to find a selection of good restaurants. We would stay here again.

Momentarily, I hesitated to provide a good review for my stay at the Chateau des Tertres... simply because I didn't want everyone to discover it. But I feel obliged to respond. The location was perfect for exploring the numerous castles nearby, the staff was extremely pleasant, the setting is gorgeous, the rooms ample and comfortable and the prices fantastic. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel!
